Puerto Rico rotated players in victory over Uruguay
COLIMA, Mexico, June 24, 2007.- Puerto Rico used all its players
during an easy victory in three sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-16) over
Uruguay in Pool B of the Women’s Pan American Cup on Sunday.
Vanessa Velez and Eva Cruz with 11 and 9 points led the scoring
for the winners while Florencia Aguirre with 9 tallies was tops
for Uruguay. Velez and Cruz included 4 and 3 blocks respectively.
“We had never faced Uruguay and took them seriously,” said Juan
Carlos Nunez, the Puerto Rican coach. “Today we had the chance to
use all my players but always with the focus on advancing to the
next round.”
“It has been a great experience playing against teams like Puerto
Rico and we can feel improvements game after game,” said Rafael
Codina, the coach of Uruguay.
